War in Ukraine: Hundreds evacuate, but some remain hesitant to leave their homes
Ukrainian authorities estimate that around 83,000 people have been forcibly displaced in the Donetsk region since 1 August, according to the officials.
As talks are held in Washington, Ukraine's First Lady says her country needs more help from Western allies and describes the devastation the war has brought to a generation of Ukraine’s children. Russian forces have reportedly captured the town of New York in the Donetsk region, a strategically important Ukrainian stronghold. This advances Russia's Donbass offensive, opening a path to nearby Toretsk. The town, named New York in the 19th century and briefly renamed Novgorodskoye during Soviet times, was heavily fortified by Ukraine since 2014.
