Sir Keir Starmer has delivered his first Labour Party conference speech as prime minister.
In a speech briefly disrupted by a pro-Palestine protester, he addressed the new government’s unpopular cuts to the winter fuel allowance, and warned of further tough decisions to turn the country around.
However, there were some announcements which will be welcome to many, including the introduction of a Hillsborough law, and guaranteed homes for veterans, young care leavers, and victims of domestic abuse.

The health secretary has vowed to end "two-tier healthcare" in the NHS in a speech delivered at the Labour conference. Wes Streeting said the NHS has let people down in recent years. Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas called Thursday on the international community to stop sending weapons to Israel in order to halt bloodshed in the West Bank and Gaza, singling out the United States.
Abbas said that Washington continued to provide diplomatic cover and weapons to Israel for its war in Gaza despite the mounting death toll.

The Met Office has upgraded its yellow weather warning to an amber 'be prepared' rainfall warning as showers are forecast to be heavier that expected.
Areas affected by the amber warning include Milton Keynes, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire, Leicestershire, parts of south-west England and the West Midlands, which could see 30-40 mm of rainfall within three hours.
