National Pumpkin Seed Day is celebrated.

With pumpkin patches across the country opening for the season, National Pumpkin Seed Day is a great excuse to get an early start on picking out the perfect outdoor Fall decor.

Celebrated yearly on the first Wednesday of October, the holiday reminds us of those special moments carving out jack o' lanterns to prepare for Halloween.

However, many may not realize the health benefits that pumpkin seeds provide, as they are abundant in protein, magnesium, phosphorus, antioxidants, amino acids, iron, potassium, and zinc.

So the next time you carve a pumpkin, save the seeds, pop them in the oven, and snack on them later.
