UNRWA: Risk of famine in Gaza without swift action
In a wide-ranging interview with Euronews in Brussel, UNRWA Gaza director Scott Anderson drew a devastating picture of the situation in the Palestinian territory, underlining acute food shortages.
Without swift action, a full-blown man-made famine could afflict life in Gaza, he claimed.
Trump’s unexpected intervention has pushed Israel and Hamas back to the negotiating table. The intense pressure from Trump’s ultimatum, calling for a ceasefire extension and the release of hostages, has led both sides to resume high-stakes talks in Doha, Qatar. Israel has sent a delegation with the hope of securing the release of American-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander and others held by Hamas, in exchange for a 60-day ceasefire extension. While Israel seeks the safe return of hostages, Hamas is demanding further concessions, including the release of 24 presumed-living hostages and a permanent end to the war.
