Biden's Big Challenge to Putin: White House Admits Allowing Ukraine Hitting Deep Inside Russia
The White House has officially confirmed a policy shift, allowing Ukraine to strike targets within Russia using U.S.-supplied Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS).
National Security Council spokesman John Kirby stated that Ukraine now has the green light to deploy these weapons for immediate defensive needs, particularly in areas like Russia's Kursk region.
This move follows heightened speculation over the past week, during which Kyiv reportedly used ATACMS in strikes on Russia’s Bryansk region.
The U.S. and NATO allies have continuously supplied advanced weaponry to Ukraine since 2022 while asserting that this support does not make them direct participants in the conflict.
However, Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly warned of severe repercussions, including nuclear escalation, if NATO’s involvement crosses certain thresholds.
In September, Putin emphasized that Kyiv's use of long-range weapons could alter the nature of the war, effectively drawing NATO into direct confrontation.
In a significant escalation of Russia's military operations in Ukraine, Russian forces have deployed thermobaric weapons, including the TOS-1A Solntsepyok and aerial thermobaric bombs, to target and obliterate Ukrainian defensive positions in the Donetsk region. The Russian Ministry of Defense released footage showcasing the devastating power of these weapons, which unleash massive explosions capable of destroying fortified structures.
The TOS-1A, a ground-based rocket system, was used to launch a series of strikes against Ukrainian defenses, causing widespread destruction. The upgraded version, the TOS-2 Tosochka, offers enhanced capabilities, including advanced rockets and mobility. Alongside these, Russia's use of thermobaric aerial bombs has proven equally destructive, further intensifying the pressure on Ukrainian forces.

U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith has filed to drop federal charges against President-elect Donald Trump, reversing course on two high-profile cases. Smith, who led the Justice Department’s efforts in election interference and classified documents cases, charged Trump in 2023 with four felony counts, including conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and obstruct an official proceeding. Smith’s motion emphasizes that Justice Department policy prohibits criminal prosecution of a sitting president, regardless of the severity of the charges.Trump faced allegations of pressuring election officials to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 victory and inciting the January 6 Capitol riots. Despite the dropped charges, the government maintains confidence in its evidence and legal merits. Smith, who Trump has publicly criticized as “crooked” and a “lunatic,” is expected to resign before Trump’s January 2025 inauguration. Meanwhile, Trump’s sentencing in a separate New York case has been postponed indefinitely, signaling further legal uncertainties ahead.

Alec Baldwin had some strong opinions about American media during an appearance at the Turin Film Festival. Baldwin was present at the festival where he was the guest of honor as the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award. During the press conference Baldwin got a little critical about Americans and media at one point saying, "You know what's going on from the news, but information in America is driven by money. It's a business. That's why there's a void in information on the biggest issues in the world. Americans know little or nothing — on climate change, on Ukraine. That void is filled in part by the film industry, by documentaries and narrative films."

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot has stated that Ukraine may use French missiles to attack targets in internationally recognized Russian territory, without specifying whether such strikes have already occurred. Barrot stated that Paris does "not set and express red lines" in its support for Kiev, and that long-range strikes on Russian soil may be carried out by Ukraine "in the logics of self-defense." France supplied Ukraine with an unknown number of SCALP-EG cruise missiles.

Ukraine escalates the conflict with a long-range missile strike against Russia’s Bryansk region, using the U.S.-supplied ATACMS missile system. The strike comes after Moscow issued a stern nuclear warning, with tensions further flaring as the missiles mark the first direct assault on Russia’s internationally recognized territory. Despite Russia’s defence systems intercepting some of the missiles, the strike caused significant damage, including a fire at a military facility. The use of ATACMS missiles, capable of reaching targets up to 300 km away, signals a new phase in Ukraine's military strategy, intensifying the conflict in the ongoing war
