Tony Chambers, who was formerly in charge of the hospital where Lucy Letby killed seven babies, has spoken publicly for the first time about his role.

Lucy Letby’s legal team has said the lead prosecution expert has “now changed his mind” on the cause of death of three babies, meaning her conviction should be reviewed. Lucy Letby’s Barrister, Mark McDonald, said the defence would seek permission to “take the exceptional but necessary decision to apply to reopen the appeal of Lucy Letby and immediately review all her convictions”.

A major incident has been declared in Greater Manchester after severe rainfall on New Year’s Day caused widespread flooding. The UK is in the grip of a wintry spell of weather, with the Met Office issuing two fresh amber warnings for snow and ice for parts of England and Wales over the weekend. Snow has already been spotted in Conwy Valley in Wales.
An amber warning for snow and rare freezing rain covering most of Wales and central England, including the Midlands and the north-west cities of Liverpool and Manchester, is in place from 6pm on Saturday to midday on Sunday, the Met Office said.
