Govt: Tougher measures needed to cut net migration
Migration minister Seema Malhotra called for tougher action to lower net migration, emphasising the need to address skills gaps and reduce reliance on overseas recruitment.

The Government has announced new laws aimed at tackling people smugglers. Suspects could be subject to travel bans, social media blackouts and limits to accessing their finances under the measures announced by the Home Office. Manchester United stars past and present, including Sir Alex Ferguson and David Beckham have paid their respects at a funeral for Kath Phipps, a long-serving receptionist at the football club's training ground. Sir Alex called her a "fantastic person" and former goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel said "she was a very important person to me and everything that I believe Manchester United is or is supposed to be".
