UK lifts sanctions on Syria, says country deserves chance to rebuild economy
The new authorities in Damascus have made a push for harsh sanctions imposed by western countries on Assad's government to be lifted, with limited success.

Yemen's Ansarullah leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi declared the Bab al-Mandab Strait and Arabian Sea closed to Israeli and American ships. In a fiery speech, he said nine attacks targeted US naval assets in response to the Gaza war. Al-Houthi condemned Israel’s siege of Gaza, calling it genocide, and criticized Arab governments and media for their silence. He highlighted US-led attacks on Yemen, Israeli aggression in Syria and Lebanon, and urged greater Palestinian unity. The death toll in Gaza from the ongoing assault has crossed 51,000, with over 117,000 injured.

Israel has killed Hussein Ali Nasr, the Deputy Chief of Hezbollah’s Unit 4400, in a precision drone strike in southern Lebanon. The attack targeted a vehicle in Kaouthariyet El-Saiyad and comes amid mounting tensions and over 2,700 reported Israeli ceasefire violations since November 27. Israel claims Nasr was a key figure in smuggling weapons from Iran via Syria and Iraq. The strike was followed by additional attacks on Houla, Iqlim al-Tuffah, and Arnoun, devastating civilian areas and raising fears of full-scale conflict.

Michael Gloss, an American citizen and the son of CIA Dy Director Larry Gloss, was killed in Ukraine while fighting on the Russian side. Gloss, in his social media posts expressed opposition to the war in Ukraine and described himself as ‘anti-fascism’. Gloss left home and joined the Russian army in 2023, and was killed on April 4, 2024.
