UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk visited the notorious Sednaya prison near Damascus, describing it as "haunted by the memories of utmost cruelty."

A deadly ambush near Syria's Mediterranean port of Tartous resulted in 14 interior ministry personnel killed and 10 injured. The attack was attributed to loyalists of ousted President Bashar al-Assad. It occurred during an operation to apprehend a former officer linked to the notorious Saydnaya prison.
