Sara Sharif: Dad and stepmum guilty of 10-year-old’s murder
Three members of Sara Sharif's family have been found guilty over the 10-year-old's death after years of horrific abuse.
Her father Urfan Sharif, 42, and stepmother Beinash Batool, 30, were found guilty of her murder while her uncle Faisal Malik, 29, was convicted of causing or allowing her death following a trial at the Old Bailey.

A drug-smuggling gang has been jailed after cocaine with a street value of £200 million was intercepted in a shipment of bananas – one of the UK’s biggest ever drug seizures. Crime boss Petko Zhutev, 39, was jailed for 27 years at the Old Bailey for importation of a class A drug. Erik Muci, 45, was sentenced to 33 years, and Olsi Ebeja, 40, was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Bruno Kuci, 32, and Gjergji Diko, 34, were jailed for 21 years and 18 years, respectively.

Alternative healer, Hongchi Xiao, 61, has been jailed for 10 years at Winchester Crown Court for the manslaughter of a type 1 diabetic woman who stopped taking insulin at his slapping therapy workshop. Danielle Carr-Gomm, 71, died at Cleeve House in Seend, Wiltshire, in October 2016 while taking part in the Paida Lajin therapy event, which sees patients being slapped or slapping themselves repeatedly. Former Scotland rugby union captain Stuart Hogg has been given a five-year non-harassment order at Jedburgh Sheriff Court. However, the judge has deferred sentencing of Hogg, 32, on a domestic abuse charge against his estranged wife until 9th January. Sara Sharif’s father and stepmother have been found guilty of her murder as questions are raised over missed opportunities to save the 10-year-old.
