Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his condolences following the deadly crash of an Azerbaijan AirlinesEmbraer 190 near Aktau, Kazakhstan.
The crash, which occurred during an emergency landing attempt, resulted in at least 42 fatalities, with 16 Russian nationals confirmed among the dead.
Putin personally conveyed his sympathies to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, extending his support to the victims and their families.
While investigations continue, the crash appears to have been caused by a collision with a flock of birds, though technical issues may have played a role in exacerbating the situation.

President Vladimir Putin announced Russia’s recapture of Kursk, the strategic border region Ukraine invaded last year. Praising his military units, Putin declared that all Ukrainian forces have been pushed out completely. This victory, seen as symbolic and military, marks a significant achievement for Russia in its ongoing conflict with Ukraine. As Putin hailed the triumph over "neo-Nazi" forces, the development coincides with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy's attendance at Pope Francis’ funeral. This recapture moves Russia closer to its goal of defeating Ukraine’s forces.

Ukraine’s intelligence agency has confirmed a major shift in Russian weapon manufacturing: the discovery of an Indian-made component in Iranian-designed Shahed drones used by Moscow. As Western sanctions tighten, Russia is now relying on Chinese, Iranian, and non-Western tech to sustain its military-industrial machine. The majority of electronics found in these drones are no longer American-made. Experts warn that clandestine supply chains — through countries like India, Türkiye, and Kazakhstan — are helping Russia replenish banned components and continue its war efforts with little global accountability.
