Tensions flared over the Baltic Sea as two Swedish fighter jets under NATO command intercepted and escorted a Russian IL-20 “Coot” reconnaissance aircraft flying dangerously close to Polish airspace. The dramatic aerial standoff, confirmed by Sweden’s armed forces, comes just days after British RAF jets similarly intercepted Russian planes. With NATO forces on high alert and repeated Russian incursions near member states, the alliance warns it is fully prepared to retaliate if provoked further.

The US is reportedly considering withdrawing up to 10,000 troops from Eastern Europe, NBC reports. These forces were initially deployed by the Biden administration after the Ukraine conflict intensified. Trump’s focus now shifts to China, as ceasefire talks with Russia gain momentum. NATO allies in Poland and Romania, where most troops are stationed, fear this signals a US retreat. Experts warn it could embolden Moscow. As Trump pushes Europe to boost its defense spending, a new strategic order is brewing, with troop cuts likely reshaping NATO’s eastern flank.
