Britain set for snow as Met Office issues amber warnings
The UK is in the grip of a wintry spell of weather, with the Met Office issuing two fresh amber warnings for snow and ice for parts of England and Wales over the weekend.
Snow has already been spotted in Conwy Valley in Wales.
An amber warning for snow and rare freezing rain covering most of Wales and central England, including the Midlands and the north-west cities of Liverpool and Manchester, is in place from 6pm on Saturday to midday on Sunday, the Met Office said.

A major incident has been declared in Greater Manchester after severe rainfall on New Year’s Day caused widespread flooding. Homes have been evacuated, train lines and roads have closed, and a canal has collapsed following heavy rain. Winter weather warnings have been issued for five U.S. states, including West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Alaska, as up to 10 inches of snow are forecasted. The National Weather Service (NWS) cautioned about hazardous driving conditions, travel disruptions, and power outages. With freezing temperatures expected, vulnerable groups like infants and the elderly may face health risks. Snow accumulations ranging from six to ten inches are expected in certain areas, including Northeast Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, and parts of Alaska.

The UK continues to face weather warnings following a night of heavy snowfall. It comes after an amber weather warning was issued across the Midlands with disruption from snow and freezing rain expected over the weekend. Many Britons could be seen enjoying the snow on Sunday as the disruption continues.

The families of the victims of the 2023 Nottingham attacks have spoken of the widespread failures that led to their loved ones’ deaths, following the release of an independent review into their killer’s care. University students Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar, both 19, and 65-year-old caretaker Ian Coates were fatally stabbed on the morning of 13th June 2023. Valdo Calocane was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2020, and was sentenced last year to an indefinite hospital order, after admitting manslaughter by diminished responsibility.
