Russia has strongly criticized the United States for its reliance on prison labor to fight wildfires in California.
Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova highlighted the hypocrisy of the U.S., pointing out its previous condemnation of forced labor practices in countries like China while mobilizing prisoners for emergency firefighting efforts in California.
Amid the ongoing wildfire crisis that has caused extensive destruction, including over 12,300 structures destroyed and significant loss of life, Zakharova questioned whether the U.S. Congress would take action against state authorities for using unpaid prison labor in emergency situations.
Moscow has accused Kyiv of deliberately targeting journalists following the death of Aleksandr Martemyanov, an Izvestia reporter, in a Ukrainian drone strike in Gorlovka, Donbass. The attack, which also injured five other journalists documenting Ukrainian shelling, has drawn sharp condemnation from Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, who labeled the incident as a "deliberate murder" and part of Kyiv's "terrorist methods."
