Martin Luther King Jr. Day is commemorated.
Observed yearly on the third Monday of January, Martin Luther King Jr. Day honors the life and achievements of civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Born January 15, 1929, Dr. King was not only an advocate for civil rights, but a symbol for peace and equality throughout the nation.
His famous 'I have a dream' speech, which was delivered in 1963 during the height of the civil rights movement, inspired generations of activists for years to come and continues to inspire those who keep up the fight for equality today.
