IAEA chief says attacks around Europe's largest nuclear power plant have increased
Russian forces seized the NPP in the early weeks following the 2022 invasion and have held it ever since but fighting around the complex has raised fears of a nuclear accident.
Russia Strikes Chernobyl as per Claims by Zelensky.Ukraine has accused Russia of launching a drone strike on the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, claiming the attack damaged the protective shelter over Reactor 4—the site of the infamous 1986 disaster. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared dramatic footage of the explosion, warning that Moscow is “not preparing for negotiations but for continued deception.” However, the Kremlin has dismissed the claims as a “provocation,” stating that Russia does not target Ukraine’s nuclear infrastructure. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that its team at Chernobyl heard an explosion and saw a fire break out. Fortunately, radiation levels reportedly remain stable.
