Man Utd to build ‘world’s greatest football stadium’
Manchester United says it will create the "world's greatest football stadium" with a new 100,000-seat venue at Old Trafford.
The plans, which have been brought forward by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, will see a complete regeneration of the area around the current stadium and the creation of a 'Wembley of the North'.

Mourners arrived for the funeral of Man United player Denis Law on Tuesday. The Aberdeen-born striker died on 17 January 2025, aged 84, more than three years after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia. Callum Best and Alex Ferguson were amongst the big names seen arriving at Manchester Cathedral for the funeral service.

Along with an expansion of Heathrow Airport, the chancellor announced the government’s backing for housing, transport and other investment in the Oxford-Cambridge corridor, which she said could become “Europe’s Silicon Valley” and add £78 billion to the UK’s economy by 2035. Rachel Reeves also declared government support for the redevelopment of the area around Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium. Triple-killer Kyle Clifford has been handed a whole-life order for the rape and murder of his ex-partner Louise Hunt, and the murder of her mother Carol Hunt and sister Hannah Hunt.
Clifford previously pleaded guilty to murdering Louise, Carol and Hannah, and was later convicted of raping Louise in a "violent, sexual act of spite".

Kyle Clifford, 26, has been sentenced to life in prison for three counts of murder. The former soldier became "enraged" when his 25-year-old ex-girlfriend Louise Hunt ended their 18-month relationship. This led to him plotting the "carefully planned and executed" murders of her, her sister Hannah Hunt and mother Carol Hunt in Bushey, Hertfordshire, on 9th July 2024. Report by Jonesia. The missing sailor who disappeared after the tanker collision in the North Sea is "presumed dead". Speaking in the House of Commons on Tuesday, Maritime minister Mike Kane said: "Our working assumption is that - very sadly - that the sailor is deceased."
