Cooper 'worried' about teenagers drawn to criminal networks
The home secretary says she is "really worried" about "dangerous" criminal networks drawing in teenagers online.
Yvette Cooper adds, "the National Crime Agency is making this a priority and we are strengthening the law so that the organisers of these criminal networks could face up to 10 years in jail".

Chris Philp has joined the daughter of Sir David Amess to call for a public inquiry into his death. It comes just two days after Home Secretary Yvette Cooper rejected the MP's family's calls for the inquiry. Speaking during a meeting with the daughter of the late MP, Mr Philp said: "We do need to properly get to the bottom of the systemic failings in the Prevent system and only a proper inquiry can do that." Stricter rules for retailers selling knives online, along with tougher penalties for those who break the rules, have been announced by the home secretary. Yvette Cooper announced unveiled a raft of anti-knife crime plans, including making retailers report bulk or suspicious sales to police, and increasing the jail sentence for selling weapons to children or illegal blades such as zombie knives, to two years. The laws will collectively be known as 'Ronan's Law', named after 16-year-old Ronan Kanda who was murdered in Wolverhampton in 2022.

The director general for threats in the National Crime Agency says he is "very concerned" about online networks of predominantly teenage boys that are inflicting harm and committing a range of criminality. James Babbage adds that the threats teenage boys are predominantly involved with include cyber crime, fraud, child sexual abuse and commissioning violence across the internet, and that their victims tend to be young girls.
