Rashmi Ranjan Swain appointed in-charge DGP of J&K
Friday, 27 October 2023 Rashmi Ranjan Swain has been appointed as the in-charge Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir, replacing the longest-serving DGP Dilbag Singh. Swain, who is currently the special DG CID, will take over the role from November 1 while continuing his existing duties. He has previously served as the police chief of Jammu and Srinagar cities and has worked extensively in Jammu and Kashmir on central deputation. Swain has been instrumental in breaking the separatist ecosystem and disrupting links between Pakistan and non-political platforms.
Continuous heavy rainfall has battered numerous areas of Jammu and Kashmir, compelling the Union territory administration to take precautionary measures by closing schools across the Kashmir valley and Reasi district, as reported by officials. The persistent downpour in recent days has inflicted severe damage in various regions. Flash floods and landslides, triggered by the torrential rain, have affected parts of Poonch and northern Kashmir, resulting in damage to both public infrastructure and private property.
