Call it Hindu-ness, not Hinduism, says declaration adopted by World Hindu Congress

IndiaTimes Saturday, 25 November 2023
The World Hindu Congress, held in Bangkok, adopted a declaration advocating the use of 'Hindu-ness' instead of 'Hinduism' in English. The declaration states that 'Hinduism' misrepresents the global Hindu community and their inherent goodness. It explains that 'Hindu Dharma' signifies all that is eternal and sustaining, while 'Hinduism' is associated with oppressive and discriminatory beliefs. The term 'Hindutva' is proposed as a more accurate alternative, meaning 'Hindu-ness'. The declaration condemns attacks on Hindutva and urges global efforts to overcome anti-Hindu bigotry.
