The plaintiffs from Moti Mahal restaurants assert that their predecessor, the late chef Kundan Lal Gujral, has been widely recognized as the exclusive "Inventor of Butter Chicken and Dal Makhani" since the 1950s. They further contend that the tagline "Inventor of Butter Chicken and Dal Makhani" has consistently served as a distinctive brand identity associated with Moti Mahal restaurants.
