US govt to conduct nationwide emergency alert: All you need to know

The purpose of the test is to ensure that the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) are effective means of warning the public about emergencies, particularly those on the national level. The EAS is a national public warning system that allows the President to speak to the American people within 10 minutes during a national emergency via radio and television.
