Saturday, 28 October 2023 Around 150,000 people participated in Taiwan's largest Pride march in Taipei, with Vice President Lai Ching-te making history as the highest-ranking government official to attend. The event, held ahead of the country's upcoming elections, aimed to reinforce Taiwan's position as a defender of liberal values. Lai expressed gratitude for the support of LGBTQ+ rights and same-sex marriage legalization. The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), led by President Tsai Ing-wen, also joined the march. The parade showcased Taiwan's openness on LGBTQ+ issues, in stark contrast to China's stance.
Tens of thousands of people march in Taiwan's capital city Taipei for east Asia's largest LGBTQ Pride Parade, now in its 21st year. The festivities come just months after the Taiwanese government passed an amendment allowing gay couples to jointly adopt children.
