Palestinian president presses US to secure Gaza ceasefire as refugee camp struck
Sunday, 5 November 2023 Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas urged U.S. diplomat Antony Blinken to demand an immediate Israeli ceasefire during their meeting on Sunday. Meanwhile, Gaza's health ministry reported that dozens were killed in an overnight strike on a refugee camp. Blinken, who is visiting the occupied West Bank, has dismissed the idea of a ceasefire by Israel, fearing it would benefit Hamas. The United States is instead pushing for localised pauses in fighting to allow for humanitarian aid.
