UN agency chiefs join in urging Gaza ceasefire

The heads of major UN agencies have issued a joint statement expressing their outrage at the civilian death toll in Gaza and calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas. The statement described the horrific toll on both sides since the Hamas cross-border attack in October, with Israeli authorities reporting about 1,400 deaths, mostly civilians, and the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza reporting at least 9,770 deaths, also mostly civilians.
