UNSC adopts resolution on humanitarian pauses in Gaza
Wednesday, 15 November 2023 The UN Security Council has approved a resolution calling for humanitarian pauses and corridors throughout the Gaza Strip, but the resolution does not mention a ceasefire. The watered-down resolution also does not refer to Hamas' surprise attack on Israel or Israel's retaliatory airstrikes. The resolution asks all parties to comply with their obligations under international law, particularly in protecting civilians. The Security Council has been paralyzed by internal divisions between China and Russia, who want an immediate ceasefire and the United States which objects.
