Philippines announces start of joint patrols with US forces

US and Philippine troops have begun joint maritime and air patrols in the South China Sea to counter China's growing assertiveness in the region. The patrols, which will last for three days, aim to enhance regional security and strengthen the partnership between the two countries. The Philippines will deploy three navy vessels, two fighter jets, and an attack aircraft, while the US will contribute a littoral combat ship and a plane. Tensions between Manila and Beijing have escalated recently.
