Bulk carrier hits mine in Black Sea, two people injured, Ukraine says

IndiaTimes Thursday, 28 December 2023
A Panama-flagged bulk carrier en route to a River Danube port to load grain collided with a Russian mine in the Black Sea, causing injuries to two crew members. The incident occurred as part of increased Russian attacks on shipping and port infrastructure, according to Ukrainian officials. The vessel lost control and a fire broke out on the upper deck. An Egyptian sailor and the captain were injured, with the former being hospitalized in Izmail. Moscow's attacks on Ukraine's port infrastructure have escalated since it withdrew from a UN-brokered agreement that facilitated the safe passage of Ukrainian grain shipments.
