Chief Justice of Pakistan says SC 'won't take over' EC's job

IndiaTimes Friday, 12 January 2024
The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Qazi Faez Isa, stated that the Supreme Court would not interfere with the Election Commission's responsibilities, as it heard the commission's petition challenging the restoration of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf party's election symbol. The three-member bench, consisting of Chief Justice Isa, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, and Justice Musarrat Hilali, highlighted the distinction between the roles of a constitutional body and a statutory body. However, the Peshawar High Court recently declared the decision unconstitutional. The hearing was adjourned until 1:30 pm.
