Congress expresses shock over ex-CJI Ranjan Gogoi’s remarks over basic structure of Constitution
Tuesday, 8 August 2023 Nominated Rajya Sabha MP and former Chief Justice of IndiaRanjan Gogoi's remarks in the House on Monday has been criticised by the Congress. Taking part in the debate on the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, popularly called the Delhi services bill, Gogoi said, "The doctrine of basic structure of the Constitution has a very debatable jurisprudential basis." He said this after quoting a book on the famous Kesavananda Bharati versus State of Kerala case of 1973.
