West Bengal House picks Poila Baisakh as state day, BJP opposes move

The West Bengal assembly has adopted a resolution to celebrate the first day of the Bengali calendar, Poila Baisakh, as "Bangla Divas" or Bengal Day. The resolution also designates the Rabindrasangeet "Banglar Mati, Banglar Jal" as the state anthem. The resolution was supported by 167 MLAs, while all 62 MLAs opposing it were from the BJP.
