Can't run affairs of Army, says Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of India has stated that courts cannot interfere in the affairs of the Army while hearing a petition filed by a woman colonel who was given a lower-ranking command. The court emphasized that it cannot run the command structure of the Army and directed the petitioners to circulate a note of their grievances. The court's previous landmark verdicts had granted permanent commission to women officers in the Army and Navy, rejecting gender discrimination.
