M S Swaminathan used farmers, scientists to make Punjab & Haryana food basket of the country

Professor M S Swaminathan, known as the 'Father of Indian Green Revolution,' played a crucial role in transforming India from a net food grain importer to a leader in food grains production. Collaborating with Nobel Prize winner Norman E Borlaug, Swaminathan introduced high yielding varieties of wheat, mechanized farm tools, irrigation facilities, pesticides, and fertilizers, which revolutionized agriculture in India. With the support of farm scientists, Punjab and Haryana witnessed significant growth in wheat and rice cultivation, leading to increased food grain output and improved farmers' incomes.
