The Indian government's intervention in the onion market has successfully lowered prices, prompting the consumer affairs ministry to sell higher quantities of onions at a subsidized rate of Rs 25 per kg in targeted cities. The ministry plans to offload around 1 lakh tonne of onions in the retail market this month. The wholesale price of onions at Delhi's Azadpur mandi has also dropped to Rs 30-40 per kg. The government's measures are expected to further cool down prices in the coming days.
