JD(U) president Rajiv Ranjan Singh "Lalan" has challenged Home Minister Amit Shah to announce a nationwide caste census, questioning the BJP's opposition to such an exercise. Singh alleged that Shah's words were empty and accused him of going back on promises. He also claimed that the BJP had opposed the caste survey ordered by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Singh argued that the BJP's skepticism about the survey's accuracy was a reason to conduct a caste census.
