The Nagaland government has proposed a special economic package to address the demand for separate statehood by the Eastern Nagaland Peoples' Organisation (ENPO). The government believes that the issues raised by the ENPO are more economic than political, as the region lacks in various sectors including infrastructure, education, and healthcare. The ENPO is demanding a separate state of Eastern Nagaland, which comprises six districts inhabited by seven tribes. The state government has recommended an economic package to catch up with the rest of the state. The involvement of the state government in the talks should not be seen as interference or delay, according to the government spokesperson.
