After losing pet dog to noise 9 years ago, Maharashtra village shuns crackers on Diwali

IndiaTimes Monday, 13 November 2023
Nine years ago, the quiet village of Chinchani in Maharashtra made a collective decision to forsake firecrackers during Diwali after a beloved Pomeranian named Bhalu died in fear of the loud noises. In memory of Bhalu, the 450 residents of Chinchani opted for traditional celebrations with lamps, lanterns, and rangolis instead. The decision has remained strong over the years, and the village has transformed into a lush, green landscape with 10,000 trees.
