TMC neta shot dead outside home, 1 of 2 killers lynched
Monday, 13 November 2023 Trinamool block president was fatally shot outside his residence in Bamangachhi, resulting in the lynching of one of the suspected assailants and subsequent arson in the nearby Daluakhaki village of the South 24 Parganas district in Bengal. The attackers targeted Saifuddin Laskar, the 43-year-old president of Trinamool's Bamangachhi block, as he left his home to attend morning prayers at a nearby mosque. Laskar, whose wife Sarifa Bibi holds the position of gram panchayat pradhan, was quickly taken to the Padmerhat rural hospital. Unfortunately, he was declared dead upon arrival.
Recent bypolls across seven Indian states resulted in significant gains for the opposition INDIA bloc, which won 10 out of 13 assembly seats. The Congress party secured victories in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while the Trinamool Congress swept all four seats in West Bengal. The BJP won two seats, including one in Madhya Pradesh.
