May ask 7-Judge bench to rule on validity of sedition law: CJI Chandrachud

The Supreme Court is considering a plea to have a seven-judge bench rule on the constitutionality of the sedition provision under Section 124A of the IPC. The plea argues that a five-judge bench may not be suitable due to a previous ruling that upheld the validity of the provision. The Chief Justice of India (CJI) will decide on the matter soon. In September, the CJI-led bench rejected the government's plea to pause the judicial scrutiny of the provision.
