President appoints Mumbai advocate Somasekhar Sundaresan as Judge of Bombay High Court

IndiaTimes Thursday, 23 November 2023
The Central government appointed Somasekhar Sundaresan as an additional Judge of the Bombay High Court. The Supreme Court Collegium recommended Sundaresan, citing his specialization in commercial law and stating that he is unbiased. The appointment increases the strength of Bombay HC Judges to 69 out of 94. Sundaresan's appointment was delayed due to objections regarding his views on social media, but the collegium found no evidence of bias. The collegium emphasized that freedom of speech does not disqualify a candidate as long as they possess competence, merit, and integrity.
