FIR against NIT-Srinagar student after blasphemous remarks spark protests

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 29 November 2023
J&K police registered Wednesday an FIR against a “non-local” student of National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Srinagar, following protests the day before on the campus triggered by allegations that the accused had made blasphemous remarks against a particular religion. A YouTube video purportedly containing the alleged offensive remarks led to demonstrations on the campus. The student from outside J&K was rusticated by the NIT authorities and allowed to go home on Tuesday itself. It wasn’t clear if the accused would be arrested.
