J&K Kulgam Encounter: Indian Army Pays Respects to Two Soldiers Who Died in Twin Encounter | Video
The Indian Army on Sunday paid rich tributes to two soldiers who lost their lives in separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, which also resulted in the neutralisation of five militants.
The solemn ceremony was held at the Badami Bagh cantonment in Srinagar.
Lance Naik Pradeep Kumar of the elite para unit and Sepoy Pravin Janjal Prabhaker of the Rashtriya Rifles unit were killed during intense gunfights at Modergam and Frisal Chinigam in Kulgam district.
Maj Bhupendra Singh Kandari was born on 15th August 1973. After completing his early education, he graduated from DAV College in Dehradun. Inspired by his father, a senior Local Audit Officer overseeing military units in Uttarakhand, Bhupendra had the aspiration to join the Indian Army from an early age. Fondly known as "Bhuppi" among friends and coursemates, he joined the Indian Military Academy (IMA) as part of the 101 Regular Course and was considered the "Josh Box" of his batch. However, due to a serious ligament injury near the end of his training, he missed his mandatory tests and graduated with the 102 Regular Course. Through sheer determination and hard work, he cleared the tests in the following term. Bhupendra was a popular figure among cadets, known for his knowledge of the best food spots in town. On liberty days, many of his coursemates would enjoy delicious home-cooked meals at his house in Hathibarkala, where his mother, a homemaker, would treat them to scrumptious food.
Commissioned into the 14 Rajputana Rifles on 13th June 1998, Bhupendra was later posted to 43 Rashtriya Rifles. He was a spirited and dedicated officer, always eager to take on new challenges. Throughout his early years in the unit, he excelled in various sports and formation activities, earning the admiration and respect of both his seniors and subordinates.
