Blasphemy row spreads, NIT Srinagar declares early winter vacations
Thursday, 30 November 2023 Protests at National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Srinagar over alleged blasphemous remarks targeting a particular religion by a student from outside J&K escalated on Thursday, spreading to other college campuses in the city. In response, NIT declared winter vacations from Thursday, ahead of the originally scheduled mid-December break, instructing students to vacate hostels immediately. It mentioned that all internal and semester-end exams will proceed according to schedule.
Continuous heavy rainfall has battered numerous areas of Jammu and Kashmir, compelling the Union territory administration to take precautionary measures by closing schools across the Kashmir valley and Reasi district, as reported by officials. The persistent downpour in recent days has inflicted severe damage in various regions. Flash floods and landslides, triggered by the torrential rain, have affected parts of Poonch and northern Kashmir, resulting in damage to both public infrastructure and private property.

Four soldiers of the Indian Air Force were injured when two vehicles in their convoy came under heavy terrorist fire in the Surankote area of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, sources said. Reinforcement was rushed to the area and counter-terror operations are underway. This is the first major attack on the armed forces this year in the region which witnessed a series of terror attacks on the army last year. Visuals from after the attack showed at least a dozen bullet holes on the windscreen of the vehicle that came under fire.
