45% rise in hate-speech cases over past 2 yrs: NCRB report
Tuesday, 5 December 2023 The latest NCRB report on crime for 2022 reveals a 45% increase in cases of hate speech and acts promoting enmity between groups based on religion, race, language, and place of birth in India. Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra had the highest number of cases in 2022. Manipur, Sikkim, Arunachal, and Telangana had the highest rates of such crimes. MP, Rajasthan, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Mizoram saw a significant rise in hate speech cases during the recent elections.

The Monsoon has created havoc across India, with Mumbai recording extremely heavy rainfall, the water level of the Saryu river rising in Ayodhya, an orange alert issued for Karnataka, and Assam grappling with floods again. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for several states, including Karnataka, Goa, Arunachal Pradesh and Maharashtra. In a devastating road accident today, at least 18 people lost their lives and many others were injured after the bus they were travelling in collided with another vehicle in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh. Among the deceased were three women and one child, police reported. The double-decker bus, which was en route from Bihar’s Sitamarhi to Delhi, crashed into a milk tanker from behind on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway early this morning. The force of the collision was immense, causing several passengers to be flung out of the bus, police stated.
