Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia addressed the issue of air price hike in the Lok Sabha, highlighting the losses faced by airlines due to the COVID-19 impact. Despite the financial challenges, airlines have operated on a sustainable basis. Scindia noted a decline in airfares across most routes from January to October 2022 and 2023 while acknowledging that fares tend to go up during high seasons. He also mentioned the significant surge in air turbine fuel prices and the existence of a Tariff Monitoring Unit for regulatory purposes in the deregulated civil aviation sector.
