Excessive rural focus, infighting within the party, and communal mobilisation by the BJP were cited as reasons for the Congress defeat in Chhattisgarh elections. Congress maintained its 2018 vote share due to the backing of SC/ST and minorities. Congress's poor performance in urban areas was attributed to the Hindutva campaign and the party's focus on caste census.
