BBC staff to launch new company for Indian language services
The BBC plans to launch a new company for Indian language services to comply with foreign investment rules. The broadcaster is being investigated for alleged foreign exchange violations in Delhi and Mumbai. This investigation was launched after the BBC aired a critical documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his leadership during communal riots. The new company, called Collective Newsroom, will be majority-owned by Indian nationals and four staff members, including the current India head, will leave the BBC to form the company.
