Wednesday, 13 December 2023 Vishnu Deo Sai sworn in as the chief minister of Chhattisgarh along with his deputies Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma. The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Prime minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah, and chief ministers of other states including Yogi Adityanath and Hemanta Biswa Sharma. Sai, known for his grassroots connection, was elected from the Kunkuri constituency and is considered close to former Chief Minister Raman Singh. A deadly stampede during a 'satsang' in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras on Tuesday claimed the lives of 121 people. Many bodies were kept on blocks of ice at a government hospital while grieving relatives waited outside to take them home. The victims were part of a large crowd gathered for a 'satsang' by religious preacher Bhole Baba near Phulrai village in the Sikandrarau area. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Hathras to meet the injured and announced that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) would probe the incident.
