IAF airlifts bodies of 64 of 88 Manipur ethnic strife victims

IndiaTimes Thursday, 14 December 2023
IAF airlifted 64 of the 88 identified but unclaimed bodies of victims of ethnic violence in Manipur to their native places, giving closure to families waiting for administration to arrange transportation from morgues in Imphal and Churachandpur. The airlifting exercise was made possible by Supreme Court's directive to the BJP-led state government. Multiple helicopter sorties were required to transport bodies to various destinations, mostly in tribal-dominant hill districts. Bodies were handed over to families in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi. Committee on Tribal Unity declared a mass funeral for the fallen victims at the martyrs' cemetery in Phaijang.
