Backlog of POCSO cases rose to 1.3 lakh in 2023, government tells Lok Sabha
The pendency of POCSO Act cases has increased by 7.4%, reaching over 1.3 lakh cases by March 2023. The government has informed the Lok Sabha that the cumulative disposal of POCSO cases stands at just over 1 lakh. The data reveals that 758 fast track special courts, including 412 exclusive POCSO courts, have disposed of more than 2 lakh cases since their inception. State-wise data shows that Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh have the highest number of disposed cases, while Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh have the highest number of pending cases.
